A: It will remove small amounts (2-3 ppm). For high iron content, you need a separate iron filter or the Culligan Gold Series + Iron Fighter option.

Culligan uses proprietary parts. You cannot buy repair parts online or at Lowes. You must go through your local Culligan dealer. This means you cannot shop around for repair pricing. If your local dealer has poor reviews, do not buy this unit.

But does the "Gold" live up to its name, or are you just paying for brand recognition?

Because the unit regenerates based on actual water usage (not a clock), we saw a 35% reduction in salt usage compared to our old timer-based unit. If you live in a drought-prone area or just hate hauling 40-lb bags of salt, this is a major win.

The mechanical dial feels like it belongs on a tractor, not a water softener. It is heavy, durable, and devoid of cheap circuit boards that fry during power surges. Many owners report these units lasting 15-20 years with basic maintenance.

Performance is king. Within 24 hours of installation, the scale on our glass shower door started wiping off with a squeegee. Our dishware stopped spotting, and our laundry detergent usage dropped by half. It produced genuinely soft water (0–1 gpg).

Unlike the digital softeners you buy at big-box stores, the Gold Series is a system. In plain English: It doesn’t regenerate on a timer. It uses a mechanical water meter to measure your actual usage and only cleans itself when necessary.

A: Approximately every 900 to 1,200 gallons of water used, but this depends on your hardness setting and family size.
