What is a Passacaglia? A Passacaglia is a musical form that originated in early 17th-century Spain. Traditionally, it is a set of continuous variations over a short, recurring bass line (ground bass) or harmonic progression. Unlike its close cousin the chaconne, the passacaglia often features the repeated pattern in the bass, though in practice the two forms have frequently been merged.
