He dragged the Poly Lens installer to the Recycle Bin. He emptied it.
He pulled them off. The office flooded back in: the hum, the clicks, Linda’s distant laughter. It was chaotic. It was imperfect. It was real.
He did the only thing he could think of. He opened the command line. He typed the only phrase the Poly Lens app respected: Echoic Memory Write – Overwrite local driver with raw biosignal.
Arthur stared at the countdown. He grabbed his phone, but the speakers emitted only a hollow, digital squeal. The app had seized all audio endpoints.
For three days, Arthur lived in the Lens. He discovered the "Focus Flow" mode. The app overlaid a translucent grid onto his peripheral vision via the headphones’ side-tone microphones. It highlighted his monitor in green and everything else in a desaturated gray.
