Lilah refuses, so Layton hatches a plan: use Osweiller as a double agent to feed Wilford false intel. Osweiller agrees, hoping to redeem himself. The fake intel leads Wilford to move his soldiers to the wrong car. Layton’s team sneaks through the ducts and seizes the Aquaduct Junction , a critical water purification hub. For the first time, Layton controls a resource Wilford needs.
On Wilford’s side, Miss Audrey is forced to perform a “party” for First Class. Wilford makes her drink, then whispers that he knows she’s feeding info to Layton. He doesn’t kill her – he wants her broken, not dead. Act 3: The Exchange & Betrayal Layton publicly accuses Osweiller, who admits it but claims Wilford promised a cure for the Chronic Engine Sickness plaguing Tail children. Before Layton can act, a Jaqboot (Wilford’s private guard) delivers a new demand: Wilford wants Lilah Folger (First Class financier) to sign over her assets to him. If not, he’ll freeze the entire back half.
Layton walks through the dividing door into Wilford’s territory. The contrast is stark: warm lighting, full meals, music. Wilford mocks him, then reveals the watch belonged to Melanie’s father . It’s a psychological move. Act 2: The Mole in the Rebellion Back in Layton’s section, someone has been sabotaging the heating coils. Boki (the Brakeman) accuses the Tailies, nearly causing a brawl. Zarah (Layton’s ex, now pregnant with his child) quietly confesses to Layton that she saw Osweiller (Tail elder) sneaking near the coils. Layton realizes Osweiller is working for Wilford in exchange for medicine.
Wilford retaliates by flooding the Tail section with freezing water. People scramble to higher cars. (Layton’s ally) nearly drowns but is saved by Till (the former detective). Layton threatens to dump the water reserve entirely unless Wilford restores heat. Wilford backs down – for now.
