The sonar ping bounced off her metallic rind and ricocheted down a side tunnel. The E.M.M.I. hesitated. Its head snapped toward the false signal. The X-parasite, sensing the distraction, split into three smaller copies and scattered into the wall vents.
Yuzu’s audio sensors picked up the squelch-thump, squelch-thump of heavy, artificial footsteps. She pressed her dorsal fin against a superheated vent, her thermal signature blending with the steam. Through the haze, she saw it: a crimson, mechanical horror. An E.M.M.I.
The E.M.M.I., its face-plate now fused open by the short-circuit, tried to retreat. But its legs were slow, confused. The plasma reached it, and the crimson chassis turned white, then red, then slumped into a molten puddle. yuzu metroid dread
She wasn’t a bounty hunter. She was a harvest unit.
The E.M.M.I. let out a grinding shriek of frustration. It turned its gaze back to the grate. Directly at Yuzu. The sonar ping bounced off her metallic rind
But Yuzu was not Samus Aran. She had no arm cannon. No morph ball. No hyper beam. What she had was a perfectly spherical body, a high-frequency sonar pulse, and a genetic coding error that made her pathologically curious.
Yuzu, still glowing faintly, bobbed to the surface of the rising lava. Her shell was scorched black in places, but intact. She floated to a service ladder, uncurled, and shook off the droplets. Its head snapped toward the false signal
As the E.M.M.I. lunged, its needle aimed at her core, Yuzu activated her full-spectrum luminescence. She blazed like a miniature sun, a sudden, blinding flash of pure citrus light.
